A book in our office library caught my attention. A guy was smiling at me in his 90s style outfit. The book was “High output management” by Andy Grove, who happens to be a former Intel CEO. It was written 4 decades ago, can it be helpful anyhow?
Oh, yes! Here’s a quote from it that I liked:

“High managerial productivity depends on choosing to perform tasks that possess high leverage”

That got me thinking: What is my highest leverage task as an engineering manager?

I figured out that at the moment it’s encouraging the team to try MCP. Because that’s what will make them most productive.

And it’s not enough to just say: “Go try it out, I heard it’s awesome”.
But I need to set it up myself, check what are security guidelines regarding MCPs in the company, and understand how to apply it in our project. That’s what I did and created a guide on that and presented it to the team.

And it started a chain reaction. And engineers in the team are now using many other MCPs and helping each other to ride that wave.

What’s your highest leverage task?
