I finished reading Growth handbook!
Actually the book is only 80 pages, and it includes:
– collection of short stories from gurus of different growth pillars (acquisition, activation, retention, etc)
– recipes for companies at different stages – both small startups and scale-ups.
Here are some of my takeaways from it:
1️⃣ Reduce time to value.
Lower the barrier for the first taste of value for users. Or as the author put it – reduce “time to pie”, time to see pie chart that breaks down your expenses and savings in a banking application. It’s a pity if a user leaves because it took too much time to get to see the value of the app.
2️⃣ Too much too early marketing can hurt.
Especially if the market is not huge. Instead do this: Turn on a marketing campaign – get traffic, get feedback, then turn off and fix the product.
3️⃣ Virality is free acquisition campaign.
Virality in this context doesn’t mean becoming a meme and getting millions of views of your content. But just getting users to share with their friends and colleagues content created in your app (ofc with a touch of your brand).
4️⃣ Get influencers to love your product.
Influencers don’t mean celebrities, but those are people who your users will listen to. For instance if you build software for doing payrolls for small businesses – make accountants love it. And they will “sell” it to your target users.
